Legendary musician Jimmy Barnes has suffered another health setback ahead of his upcoming tour, eight months after undergoing open-heart surgery.
The Working Class Man singer’s doctor has ordered the musician to undergo hip surgery “ASAP”.
Barnes shared the “bad news” on Instagram, explaining he had experienced a twinge in his hip on Thursday morning.
“By late last night the pain was unbearable so I went off to hospital,” he posted to Instagram on Saturday.
“The doctors have recommended a remedial medical procedure ASAP followed by some physio to address the issue.
“These doctors don’t muck around! Providing all goes to plan, I’m expected to make a full recovery in six weeks.”
The unexpected surgery means Barnes has been forced to cancel his upcoming solo shows in August and September.
“Ticket holders will be contacted with further info in the coming days once we have new plans in place,” he promised.
“As you know, I hate to let anyone down, but I’m also never going to compromise the quality of my gigs.
“I apologise for the inconvenience this will cause everyone – I HATE moving shows! – but thank you for understanding.”
In December, Barnes underwent urgent open-heart surgery to fight the spread of an aggressive bacterial infection.
The bacteria he had been fighting spread to an otherwise healthy valve that was replaced some years ago due to a congenital defect.
Barnes has battled a series of health concerns in recent years and cancelled his summer tour in 2022 to undergo urgent back and hip surgery for severe pain.
