A masked attacker who filmed a “shocking and unacceptable” shooting and car torching at a suburban Sydney home held up a message as flames raged.

Police were called to the home at Moorebank, southwest Sydney, in the early hours of Sunday.

Seven children and a woman, 32, were inside the house when up to 10 bullets were fired and an SUV in the driveway was doused in accelerant and set alight.

Footage of the attack posted online showed one of the masked men holding a sign that stated: “You want to be a man
Welcome to a mans (sic) world!”

Police said several unidentified males left the scene in a white vehicle prior to officers’ arrival.

The occupants of the house, a 32-year-old woman and seven children aged between three and 10, were uninjured.

NSW Police Acting Superintendent Matthew Newton told media it was a “shocking and unacceptable” attack.

The targeted home was believed to be linked to a woman connected to a luxury car rental business, The Daily Telegraph reports.

About 24 hours earlier, another car a few doors down was firebombed. Police are reportedly investigating whether that initial attack was on the “wrong” address.

Police Minister Yasmin Catley expressed alarm at children getting caught up in  “sickening” violence.

“Police are doing everything they can to identify those responsible and make arrests,” Catley said.

“The government is backing the NSW Police like never before: we’ve created a new aggravated offence for public place shootings and increased the maximum penalty for shooting at dwellings.

“This violence is sickening, even more so when young, innocent children are caught up in it.”

Police established a crime scene and commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Anyone with information, including CCTV or dashcam footage, is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
