Quick-thinking officers have helped safely deliver a baby girl in the back seat of a car parked at a police station.

Police were returning to the Browns Plains station in Queensland on Tuesday when they were flagged down by a panicked father in a red hatchback, who alerted them that his 22-year-old heavily pregnant partner was in the late stages of labour.

The couple had been on the way to Logan Hospital when they realised they weren’t going to make it and pulled into the station driveway.

Officers swooped in to help, rushing over to the parked car.

Constable Jenna Ziviani, with assistance of an ambulance operator on the phone, helped deliver the baby within seven minutes.

She said it was “super special”, with the operator taking her through every step in the birth process.

“They just talk you through it so calmly,” Ziviani said.

Paramedics then arrived shortly after and took the family to the hospital.

Senior Sergeant Aleisha Young arrived on scene shortly after the birth and described it as a celebration.

“Well, this doesn’t happen every day does it?” she said in vision released by police.

“I’ve been in the job for 27 years and I have never been on shift when it’s happening.

“This is so good. It’s a celebration. I just don’t have champagne to offer you … She’s so tiny!”

Both mother and baby are happy and healthy, recovering at home.
