Gold Coast police have been commended for their commitment to all creatures great and small after rescuing a beloved family dog from a smoke-filled property on Thursday.

An emergency call was received around 10.15am regarding a house fire in Currumbin Waters.

When police arrived, they saw smoke pouring from the property and immediately went inside to help, putting themselves in danger.

Working alongside each other, officers quickly extinguished the fire before conducting a thorough search of the home to ensure no people remained inside.

During the search, officers located a border collie at the rear of the smoke-filled property.

The seemingly disorientated pooch, which was curled up on a couch, was carried from the home to safety by a detective.

Several officers were assessed and treated for minor smoke inhalation as a precaution.

No serious injuries were reported and all officers involved, along with the border collie, are safe and well.

Police said the incident highlighted the swift actions of officers and their commitment to protecting our community.
