A six-year-old girl has broken the women’s Rubik’s cube world record twice in three days.

Lian Yunzhi, a gap-toothed girl with quick hands, took mere seconds to complete the mind-bending puzzle using a 3x3x3 cube.

China’s state TV said she posted averages of 4.52 seconds in Wuhan and 4.27 seconds in Guangzhou at recent World Cube Association-recognised events.

This made her the first female ‘speedcuber’ to average under 4.5 seconds, according to competition records and specialist coverage.

Wearing a headband with a large red bow, the impish girl’s small hands deftly twist the mixed-up cube back, forth and around.

Seconds later, she triumphantly slams the completed cube on the desk, with its colours in perfect alignment.

She celebrates the achievement with a quick clap and fist pump.

The girl from Chengdu was reportedly introduced to Rubik’s after being enrolled in an extracurricular class that included activities like dance and music.

Her mother Lin Yangxi told Chinese media she realised cubing was beneficial for the girl’s “comprehensive abilities” and shifted her focus towards it.

She said her daughter practiced for two to three hours a day and had mastered more than 1300 Rubik’s algorithms.

“Solving a Rubik’s Cube improves focus, memory, logical thinking, spatial awareness, and helps develop a healthy mindset toward winning and losing,” Lin said.

“It’s not just about blindly memorising formulas, but using logical reasoning to find optimal solutions.”
