Australian tennis champion Alex de Minaur secretly tied the knot with his fiancée Katie Boulter at the weekend – on the same day the 2026 Wimbledon men’s singles final was underway.

The so-called “tennis power couple” exchanged vows in front of family and friends in an intimate low-key ceremony at a church in Leicestershire, near where Boulter grew up in the British midlands, according to reports.

Both had earlier been knocked out of Wimbledon, with De Minaur suffering a crushing fourth-round defeat to Italian Flavio Cobolli and Boulter losing in the opening round to Tyra Caterina Grant.

Photos of the wedding show the couple holding hands and beaming amid a shower of red rose petals, with de Minaur looking suave in a black suit and bow tie, while Boulter wore a white off-the-shoulder dress.

Locals said they had been “sworn to secrecy”, according to the Daily Mail, which also reported that the couple had arrived at the church together in a black Porsche Carrera driven by de Minaur and celebrated later at a local pub.

“It’s not often two top tennis players get married in your local church, but out of respect for the family we kept it quiet,” a resident was quoted as saying.

The newlyweds have been together for six years and announced their engagement in an Instagram post in 2024.

But the timing of the wedding has sparked comments from some tennis watchers, given that it coincided with the date for the Wimbledon men’s singles final, in which Jannik Sinner ultimately defeated Alexander Zverev.

“While the tennis world was watching the Wimbledon final, Katie Boulter and Alex de Minaur were writing their own fairytale…” said an Instagram post by Tennis Showcase.

“No cameras. No spotlight. Just a private moment celebrating six years of love.”

Last week, de Minaur – the Australian No.1  – appeared to have at least his first grand slam semi-final in his sights when he faced Cobolli. But with Boulter watching on, he wilted in the sweltering English heat to lose the match 7-5 7-6 (7-4) 6-3.

“It breaks me inside,” he said after the loss.

“To not step up to the plate, it’s truly gut-wrenching. It’s very tough.”

Nonetheless, his wedding isn’t the only reason life is looking rosier for the 27-year old.

The release of the ATP ranking list on Monday confirmed de Minaur has now reached a career-best fifth, after beginning and ending Wimbledon at 11th last year.

He is the first Australian man to make the top five in 17 years and the seventh in total following Rod Laver, Ken Rosewall, John Newcombe, Pat Cash, Pat Rafter and Lleyton Hewitt.

De Minaur and Boulter will now have some time to enjoy together before the north American hardcourt swing begins for the duo.
