Two boys, aged 13 and 16, have been charged with murder following a “horrendous” alleged stabbing that triggered a major manhunt in Sydney.

Tradie Joshua Smith was killed in Mount Druitt, in Sydney’s west, on Friday night.

CCTV shows the father, aged in his 30s, running down a laneway as his alleged attackers chase and catch up with him.

Superintendent Brendan Gorman told media it was a “horrendous” incident, triggering a major manhunt for a group of alleged attackers.

A security guard from a nearby pub reportedly phoned triple-0.

When police arrived on scene, they found the victim suffering stab wounds to his torso.

Officers rendered him assistance before paramedics arrived.

“However, despite the efforts of emergency services, he died at the scene,” said police.

A crime scene was established and police launched Strike Force Lanilo.

Following extensive inquiries, investigators arrested a 13-year-old boy at Mt Druitt Police Station on Sunday night.

He was charged with murder, breach of bail, and an unrelated offence of robbery in company.

A 16-year-old boy was  arrested at a home in Cabramatta.

He was taken to Cabramatta Police Station where he was charged with murder — accessory after the fact to an offence.

The boys were refused bail to appear before a children’s court on Monday.
