Most Queensland voters would put a number one next to One Nation if an election were held now, with Pauline Hanson’s party preferred over Labor and the Coalition, according to a new poll.

One Nation would also receive a sizeable vote in NSW and WA where the party’s popularity has soared to within one per cent of Labor, reveals the Newspoll published by The Australian on Monday (AEST).

Voters were asked who they would vote for if a federal election for the House of Representatives was held that day.

The results showed One Nation had surged to a commanding lead in Queensland where Pauline Hanson was also the preferred prime minister, leading Labor’s Anthony Albanese 52-48.

In the Sunshine State, 36 per cent of voters said they would vote for One Nation, compared to 25 per cent for Labor — a commanding lead of 11 per cent. Nineteen per cent said they would choose the Coalition and 12 per cent preferred the Greens.

Queensland was the only state where One Nation took the lead.

But the party had risen in popularity in NSW and Western Australia to come within one per cent of Labor.

In NSW, One Nation was on 31 per cent (compared to 30 per cent for Labor, 17 per cent for the Coalition and 12 per cent for the Greens).

In WA, 29 per cent of voters said they would choose One Nation (versus 30 per cent for Labor, 21 per cent for the Coalition and 11 per cent for the Greens.”

The One Nation leader was most unpopular in Victoria — where Labor led 29 per cent to One Nation’s 25 per cent and the Coalition’s 22 per cent, with the Greens on 16 per cent.

In South Australia, Labor held 32 per cent to One Nation’s 31 per cent, the Greens were on 14 per cent and the Coalition was last on 13 per cent.

The Newspoll survey compared aggregate results for Newspolls conducted between July and September with the same three-month period last year following the May 2025 election.
