Jane Hume says no time to celebrate despite Liberal poll lift
Despite the Coalition recording a small lift in the latest opinion polls, Deputy Opposition Leader Jane Hume says it remains focused on rebuilding trust with Australians rather than celebrating early gains.
Hume told 10 News+ the Coalition was committed to holding the Albanese government to account on the cost of living, arguing Australian living standards have declined under Labor.
She also accused the government of failing to deliver on key election promises, claiming its budget was “based on lies” and pointing to issues including tax cuts, migration and energy policy.
While acknowledging the Coalition still had work to do before the next election, Hume said it was focused on presenting an alternative economic plan centred on lower inflation, lower interest rates and improving living standards.
Her comments come as both major parties continue positioning themselves ahead of the next federal election, with the Coalition hoping to rebuild voter confidence while Labor defends its economic record.
