Pauline Hanson reignites paid parental leave debate

Australia’s paid parental leave scheme will expand to 26 weeks from July 1, marking the latest increase since Labor began gradually extending the entitlement after returning to government.
The leave is paid at the minimum wage and income thresholds have also been lifted, allowing more families to qualify.
The changes have reignited debate about paid parental leave after comments from One Nation leader Pauline Hanson prompted discussion about how the scheme should be funded.
Politicians from across the political spectrum have since expressed support for paid parental leave, while differing on how it should operate and who should bear the cost.
