Brittany Higgins has spoken out after marrying fiance David Sharaz at the weekend.

Higgins and Sharaz wed in front of 80 friends and family in her home state of Queensland on Saturday.

Both have shared numerous photos of the ceremony at the Currumbin Valley Estate on June 1 to social media.

“Today I married my best friend,” 29-year-old Higgins captioned her post, adding “Mr and Mrs Sharaz”.

Sharaz wrote that it had been “the best day of my life”.

The happy day came as the couple remain embroiled in legal action led by Higgins’ former boss, Liberal senator Linda Reynolds.

Two weeks ago, the parties were in the Western Australian Supreme Court as Reynolds sought information about a trust set up to manage Higgins’ $2.4 million Commonwealth compensation payment.

She is suing Higgins and Sharaz in a pair of defamation cases resulting from the fallout from the former staffer’s claims she was raped in the senator’s Parliament House office.

In April, Sharaz said he was bowing out of defending his case against Reynolds because he could not “afford to pay legal costs to defend myself over a six-week trial”.

Reynolds has also launched separate legal action in France to try to freeze Higgins’ Commonwealth payout.

The grounds for Higgins receiving the money included being raped in the workplace, suffering psychiatric injury, economic loss, bullying as well as the disputed inadequate support.

Mediation has so far failed to resolve Reynolds’ defamation claims.

But that was all put aside for the couple’s big day on Saturday.

“We’ve gone through more in the last few years than most couples will endure in a lifetime. But it was all worth it to see David standing at the end of the aisle,” Higgins said in an interview with marie claire magazine published on Monday.

Sharaz, meanwhile, said he had been “looking forward to marrying Brittany since I first laid eyes on her all those years ago”.

“That said, celebrating with our family and friends and seeing Brittany truly happy for the first time in years, after everything she’s had to go through, was the greatest day of my life.”

Higgins and Sharaz met in May 2020 while he was a producer for Sky News Australia.

In December, the couple moved to the south of France, where they have reportedly bought a house.

On Saturday, Higgins wore a dress by Australian designer Paolo Sebastian for her nuptials.

It had a long-sleeve lace bodice, belted with a bow waist-band before flourishing into a ball gown skirt.

“Paolo Sebastian is an Australian designer I’ve been obsessed with for years. To collaborate with Paul to create the modern Grace Kelly dress of my dreams was such a privilege,” she told marie claire.

She carried a bouquet of white and blush roses and wore her hair down, with a long veil.

The bridesmaids wore matching, floor-length black dresses.

Sharaz wore a black tuxedo.

There were reportedly media waiting outside the venue to capture photos of the couple. But they were largely shielded from the event by the venue’s security team.

There were also reports the noise of a helicopter hovering overhead delayed events by up to an hour.
