Watch: North Korea blows up and a pumpkin goes rogue

North Korea expressed fury towards its neighbour by exploding roads and rail lines, and received warning shots in response.

Elsewhere in the world, heavy rains brought floods to the Sahara Desert, and singer Olivia Rodrigo recovered quickly from an on-stage mishap in Melbourne.

North Korea’s destructive fury

On Tuesday, North Korea blew up sections of roads and rail lines in its own territory that were connected with South Korea, following accusations the latter had scattered anti-North leaflets over Pyongyang.

In response to the detonations, South Korea’s military fired warning shots south of the military demarcation line dividing the countries, though it said the explosions had not caused any damage on Seoul’s side of the border.

Two days of rainfall in September exceeded yearly averages in several areas of south-east Morocco, filling up old lake beds and creating new ones. The last floods in the Sahara Desert were 50 years ago.
