One person has suffered life-threatening burns while another has been seriously injured after a forklift blaze at a busy worksite in Brisbane.

Emergency crews were called to Anton Road at Hemmant about 10.50am on Friday, arriving to find the blaze already well involved.

Five people were taken to hospitals from the commercial site. One had life-threatening burns to their head, face and chest, while another had serious burns to their arms.

Three more were suffering smoke inhalation.

The Seven Network reported that vision from the scene showed thick smoke billowing from among stacks of shipping containers as firefighters worked to contain the blaze.

“An industrial forklift contains a lot of lubricants and oils. The containers that were on fire were refrigerated shipping containers so they are insulated with insulation foam,” a Queensland Fire Department spokesperson said.

“That would have contributed to a lot of the smoke.”

Queensland Ambulance Service sent seven crews to the scene.

The fire spread to nearby containers, with firefighters continuing to work to bring the blaze under control on Friday afternoon.

Authorities are yet to confirm how the fire started or what was inside the affected containers.
