Two bushwalkers missing in Tasmania’s southwest have been found safe and well.

The men, aged in their 60s, activated personal locator beacons in the Loddon Range about 9pm on Monday.

Crews were dispatched to the area overnight but were unable to persist with the search because conditions were unsafe.

The search resumed on Tuesday with the support of a Westpac Rescue Helicopter as crews navigated steep terrain, thick vegetation and wet conditions.

The pair was sighted at 5pm on Tuesday by a crew on the helicopter, the rescue team reached them by 7pm and they are walking back to their vehicle.

Sergeant Damian Bidgood said a ground crew made their way to the missing hikers because the weather was too challenging for a winching operation.

“This is a fantastic outcome for everyone involved,” he said.
