Feuding brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher are reportedly on the brink of repairing pop music’s biggest rift, with Oasis planning a reunion.
The group, which broke up in 2009 after a backstage fight in Paris between the brothers, is said to be set to reunite at next year’s Glastonbury before embarking on a summer of money-spinning gigs.
Hours after the brothers teased the possibility with a cryptic video posted to their separate social media accounts, it was reported they have been “promised a payday of £50 million ($97 million) to reform and embark on a global tour”.
But the payoff for the brothers could be much, much more. British music industry expert Professor Jonathan Shalit told The Sun the reunion could easily rake in more than £400 million.
“With tickets, sponsorship, merchandise and filming, I would predict an income for Noel and Liam of over £50 million each,” he said.
“This is a tour that could easily gross over £400 million.”
The mammoth amount was reported as Liam, 51, sent Oasis fans into a tizz by appearing to confirm he and Noel, 57, will tour Britain next year.
“See you down the front,” he said on X, when asked about the rumoured Oasis shows.
He also later told his 3.6 million followers on the platform: “I never did like that word FORMER.”
But Gallagher could not resist a dig at his brother. Asked what he would say to Noel when they returned to the stage, he said: “Keep up”.
British media reported at the weekend that the brothers were finally on speaking terms again, 15 years after they last shared a stage.
“Liam and Noel are talking again and the reunion is definitely happening. It has been a long time coming but things are back on track,” a source told Britain’s Mirror newspaper.
“A lot of senior people around the Gallaghers haven’t been told yet and those who are involved have all had to sign NDAs. But the reunion will happen and an announcement is imminent. Oasis gigs will be the biggest event in Britain in 2025.”
Fans speculated that Liam could confirm the reunion during his solo headline set at Reading Festival on Sunday night (British time).
Liam has been touring his Definitely Maybe shows across Britain to celebrate 30 years since the release of Oasis’ debut album of the same name.
At a show in Cardiff, he dedicated a rendition of Half The World Away to his “little brother” – telling the crowd the songwriter was “still playing hard to get”.
Their reunion reportedly came in phone conversations.
“Noel and Liam are never going to be the best of friends but they want to bring Oasis back for the fans,” a source told The Sun.
“They aren’t getting any younger and the demand is huge. They decided it was now or never.
“Noel dug his heels in for a long time but has finally caved and agreed to return. He spoke to Liam on the phone and they are on the same page.
“They know this reunion will go down in music history.”
Along with an initial reunion performance at Glastonbury 2025, it is expected the Gallaghers will perform at Heaton Park in Manchester, and have a 10-show run at Wembley Stadium.
It is understood two huge promoters, SJM Concerts and Live Nation, are in line to land the tour.
The Mail on Sunday said Glastonbury bosses had told Oasis a headline slot at next summer’s Worthy Farm festival had been “left open” for the group.
Ten nights at Wembley Stadium would top the eight dates Taylor Swift has just wrapped up for her Eras Tour. She became the world’s first solo artist to play the London venue that many times.
