Vandals have damaged the star of the late Dolly Parton on the iconic Hollywood Walk of Fame in Los Angeles.

A woman reported on social media on Tuesday (US time) that someone had kicked away candles placed there in memory of the artist, who died last week, and apparently scratched Parton’s name on the star with a shard of glass.

“Somebody decided to do this about 10 minutes before we got here. It just doesn’t make any sense,” Lore Corona wrote.

The damage was also visible in other videos and photos online.

Hollywood Chamber of Commerce spokesperson Ana Martinez confirmed a report by TMZ.com that the star was being repaired.

“This repair was set up late last week and the crew just completed the first part of making said repairs,” Martinez said.

“The star repairs are currently ongoing and are done by the Hollywood Historic Trust, which maintains and repairs the Walk of Fame stars. The star will cure and will be polished on Friday for fans to enjoy.”

Parton’s fans have flocked to the star since her death on August 25 in Nashville at the age of 80. An informal memorial has sprung up around it, with flowers, notes, nail polish, pink sunglasses.

Parton was immortalised on the Walk of Fame in 1984 alongside Sylvester Stallone, her co-star from the musical romance Rhinestone.

Three days after her death, Parton’s family gathered for an intimate funeral at Nashville’s Woodlawn Memorial Park and Mausoleum, where she rests beside her husband Carl Dean, who died in March 2025 aged 82.
