The King’s family problems are about to get even more complex, with what one British report says is “a second Harry in the making”.

The King’s former sister-in-law, Sarah Ferguson, will reportedly return home after months of self-exile overseas – and is considering a tell-all TV interview.

The Sun reports the 66-year-old former duchess of York has rented a £10,000 ($A18,900) six-bedroom gated property in the countryside surrounding London. It has three bathrooms and a “granny annexe” and – according to the newspaper – Ferguson is poised to move in “imminently”.

The development comes just days after Prince Harry and wife Meghan Markle returned to Britain to begin a new life after six years in North America. They are apparently renting a house in the Cotswolds and have enrolled children Archie and Lilibet in schools.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are said to intend an “extended stay” in Britain – although their more detailed plans remain unspecified.

The King is said to have been blindsided by his younger son’s sudden decision to return to Britain, learning of it only days before the family arrived. And then, this weekend, came the reports about Ferguson.

“One [more] familiar name is drifting back into his life and it feels like a second Harry in the making,” The Express wrote on Sunday.

Ferguson is the former wife of the King’s embattled younger brother, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor. She lost her title almost a year ago alongside the former prince amid revelations about their friendship with convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

The couple divorced as far back as 1996. But Ferguson continued to live with Mountbatten-Windsor at his former home Royal Lodge until he was forced to leave and move to Marsh Farm on the King’s Sandringham estate in Norfolk.

She is believed to have since spent much of her time out of the public eye at a luxury Swiss Alpine chalet in Verbier. It is owned by her former boyfriend, Paddy McNally.

Ferguson and Mountbatten-Windsor have remained conspicuously low profile following the birth of their fifth grandchild, Princess Eugenie’s daughter Adelaide, in Portugal a month ago. The new baby is 15th in line to the British throne.

Amid family and royal celebrations of the birth, neither grandparent has been seen publicly.

There are mixed reports about whether or not Ferguson has visited to meet the new baby. It follows claims by at least one royal author that Eugenie and older sister Beatrice’s relationship with their father has become strained under the continued Epstein revelations.

Now The Sun reports that Ferguson’s belongings were collected from Mountbatten-Windsor’s new home late last week, suggesting her return home is definitely on.

In another potential nightmare for the King, the tabloid also reported at the weekend that “Fergie has been bombarded with requests from all over the world to do sit-down interviews, especially with the big streamers, to tell her side of the story”.

“She is looking at her options. For her, it’s more about retaining editorial control rather than making money,” a friend reportedly said.

“Sarah has a tight-knit group of friends and is extremely well connected.

“She would only allow someone she knew well to tell her story.”

There have been repeated calls for Ferguson to speak to US authorities about Epstein following last year’s release of millions of documents associated with him that shed new light on their relationship.

One email exchange suggested Ferguson took Beatrice and Eugenie to see Epstein in the US days after his release from prison on child sex crimes.

Epstein has also been the downfall of Mountbatten-Windsor. The King stripped him of his titles because of “serious lapses of judgment” over his friendship with the late paedophile.

On his 66th birthday in February, Mountbatten-Windsor was arrested and questioned by police on misconduct in public office allegations. He was released later the same day and no charges have been laid.

When Mountbatten-Windsor lost his titles, Ferguson lost her courtesy royal divorcee title and reverted to her maiden name. She also lost the freedom of the city of York after councillors voted unanimously to remove the honour over her links to Epstein.
