A pregnant Anne Hathaway has hit back at bizarre speculation that ignited online after she hit the red carpet for the premiere of her latest movie.
“Fake hair, real bump,” the 43-year-old star posted to accompany a video of her night out for the premiere of The End of Oak Street on Sunday (local time).
Hathaway wore a custom look by Atelier Prabal Gurung – low-rise jeans and a stylish powder blue crop top that showed off her baby bump – on the red carpet in Los Angeles.

But that seemed to be exactly the problem. The Oscar-winner’s appearance sparked a flurry of ugly commentary that she was wearing a fake pregnancy belly.
“I’m sorry but that looks fake,” one person commented under a TikTok of Hathaway’s premiere look posted by Entertainment Tonight, while another noted that she was likely wearing body makeup.
“Looks like a fake stomach. The belly button looks unreal,” another person suggested.
“Oh come on. That is not real,” said someone else. Another critic thought Hathaway was wearing “a prosthetic bump”, while yet another wrote: “As someone who has kids, her belly looks like those fake ones they use in movies.”
Hathaway and husband Adam Shulman already have sons Jonathan, 10, and Jack, 6. She revealed her third pregnancy with an Instagram post back in June.
Hathaway has previously revealed she suffered a miscarriage in 2015. It came as she starred in the one-woman play, Grounded, in which she had to act out childbirth every night.
She recently told late night TV host Seth Meyers how shocked she was to have got pregnant so easily given her age and after fertility challenges.
On Monday night, Hathaway appeared on US TV’s Jimmy Kimmel Live!, where she revealed she and Shulman knew the gender of their upcoming third child.
“We know … [But] we’re not saying,” she said to cheers from the audience.
“Thank you for the support. It always feels so rude saying that.”
Hathaway said her family, including her two sons, were excited about the new arrival.
“[They’re] over the moon,” she said. “It feels really beautiful. It feels like the family’s having a baby. I mean, it’ll feel like I’m having a baby while it’s happening, but the emotional feeling is that we’re all going to welcome this little one.”
Aside from the pregnancy, 2026 has been busy for Hathaway. She has also had roles in The Devil Wears Prada 2, The Odyssey and Mother Mary.
The End Of Oak Street is a sci-fi survival film directed by David Robert Mitchell and produced by J.J. Abrams. It is released in Australia on Thursday.
