‘She was talking about it’: Martha spills the beans on Meghan

Meghan Markle has once again found herself in hot water after lifestyle guru Martha Stewart claimed she overheard her talking about her recent trip to the UK when she returned to California from “the palace”.
During their European trip last month, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and their children Archie and Lilibet visited Charles and Queen Camilla at Highgrove Estate, the King’s country residence in Gloucestershire.
It was the first time the young prince and princess had seen their grandfather in four years, after Harry’s relationship with his father and brother William became fractured when he quit as a working royal in 2020 and moved to California with Meghan.
But while royal commentators saw the private meeting at Highgrove as a positive step, Stewart’s claim has sparked concerns Meghan may have hindered progress towards a reconciliation between the Duke and King by speaking out of school.
“I had dinner with Meghan Markle the other night,” Stewart told People magazine.
“We were both guests at a dinner party in California. And she had just gotten back from the palace.
“I didn’t talk to her really more than to say a couple words, but I know she was talking about it.”
No official photos or comments were released by Buckingham Palace after the visit by the Sussexes, which occurred amid tensions over the family’s accommodation and security arrangements.
Ahead of the reunion, Vanity Fair had quoted sources close to King Charles as saying that he “wanted the meeting but was adamant it must be kept private”.

Stewart’s comments were part of a broader interview and didn’t make it clear if Meghan spoke specifically about the family’s brief time at Highgrove. However, they have been widely picked up by the media, with one UK tabloid headline suggesting she had “boasted about trip to palace”.
It comes just days after reports suggesting that Harry had been buoyed by the “emotional reunion” with his 77-year-old father and wanted him to have the opportunity to spend more time with Archie, 7, and Lilibet, 5.
He is said to want Charles to stand alongside him in a rare public appearance at next year’s Invictus Games, which are set to take place in just under 12 months in Birmingham, England, with more than 500 competitors from 25 countries.
Harry founded the Games in 2014 for wounded, injured and sick servicemen and women from around the world, and organisers reportedly plan to invite the King to take part in the opening or closing ceremony.
“He (Harry) would love the King’s support at the Games, while having his father by his side would also add considerable weight to his argument for security for his family to accompany him on the trip,” UK newspaper The Mirror quoted a source as saying.
Another source said the Games were a “big deal” for the Duke, and “it would mean the world to him to have his father there”.
Stewart, meanwhile, also shared her views on the Duchess of Sussex’s Netflix lifestyle show With Love, Meghan, which was recently nominated for an Emmy Award but has not been renewed for a third season.
As a lifestyle entrepreneur who is sometimes dubbed the original “cultural influencer”, Stewart had said in 2025 before the show’s launch that she was curious to check it out. But asked by People for her thoughts now, she didn’t exactly give a glowing endorsement.
“If you’re an actress, it’s hard to then transition to a princess and then from a princess into a homemaking guru on a television show,” Stewart said.
“It doesn’t sort of follow. So go from there.”
Meghan – who has posted a series of photos and video clips on social media of herself celebrating her 45th birthday this week – was seen on Australian TV screens last month as a celebrity guest judge on MasterChef.
Her much-hyped appearance, which saw the show’s fans divided, was filmed during her visit to Australia with Harry in April.
