Margot Robbie isn’t the least bit fazed by the Oscars snub for her role in Barbie, but she does have one gripe with the nominations.

When the Australian actress was overlooked for Best Actress at the Oscars, people were furious, and so were her Barbie cast mates.

Barbie was the highest-grossing film of 2023 and also the first $1 billion film directed solely by a woman, yet Greta Gerwig was also overlooked for Best Director at the Oscars.

However, the film has been nominated for eight Oscars, including Ryan Gosling for Best Supporting Actor and America Ferrera for Best Supporting Actress.

At a SAG screening of the film, Robbie, Gosling and Ferrera were on the panel with other members of the cast when Deadline‘s Senior Awards Editor Antonia Blyth asked Robbie about the Oscars snub.

Robbie said she and the cast were “beyond ecstatic” about the nominations, but their intention always was to create something to shift culture and have a great impact.

She believes it not only did that, but the film far surpassed their expectations and she is stoked for those who did get nods at this year’s awards.

“Obviously I think Greta should be nominated as a director, because what she did is a once-in-a-career, once-in-a-lifetime thing, what she pulled off, it really is,” Robbie said.

“It’s been an incredible year for all the films”.

Margot Robbie noted 2023 was an “incredible” year for films.

She also said there was “no way to feel sad when you know you’re this blessed”.

Robbie was not only the main character in Barbie, but she also served as a producer on the film, so she and fellow producers David Heyman, Tom Ackerley and Robbie Brenner may get a win in the Best Picture category.

Additionally, Gerwig and Noah Baumbach may take home a statue for writing the film.

While she may have been overlooked in the US, Robbie is set to return to Australia this month to receive the prestigious AACTA Trailblazer Award in her home state of Queensland.
