Two Aussie larrikins are set to transition from social media personalities to TV stars with the debut of a new show.

Ex-tradies Matt ‘Falcon’ Ford and Jack Steele, the duo behind The Inspired Unemployed, will host eight-part Australian original series, The Inspired Unemployed (Impractical) Jokers.

August 9 has now been confirmed as the premiere date for the series, which will air and stream on Channel 10, 10 Play, and Paramount+.

Ford and Steele will be joined by their close friends Liam Moore and Dom Littrich; together, the foursome will compete to embarrass each other in the biggest way possible, with those failing at the task given a humiliating punishment.

All of the awkwardness and hilarity will be captured by hidden cameras, and Ford hinted the cast put their all into it.

“I honestly went through some of the most painful experiences of my life in this show but … I’m pretty sure it was worth it,” he wrote on Instagram.

From tools to TV

The Inspired Unemployed was born after Ford and Steele, both staring down the barrel of a life as reluctant tradies, decided to start filming skits and posting them on social media when travelling overseas.

“We started it as a resume to get into entertainment,” Steele told 9Honey.

“We didn’t know what that meant but we thought f— it, if we can make some videos and get a little bit of traction, that will help us do something in this industry.”

Their popularity exploded in 2020, with their depictions of Aussie culture, dating and generational stereotypes having now netted the duo 1.7 million followers on Instagram and 1.6 million on TikTok.

In 2021, Ford and Steele launched their own beer brand, and scored a podcast commissioned by Spotify, with episodes dedicated to everything from hangover cures to ChatGPT.

Throughout their success, their humour has stayed the same.

But now, they work alongside the likes of Margot Robbie, Daniel Ricciardo and Shaquille O’Neal.

Their TV series, announced in April, is the cherry on top of their back-to-back accomplishments over the past couple of years.

Although they admitted they have been able to make some lifestyle adjustments with more money flowing in, Ford and Steele have also made a habit of working with their close friends and family to share their success, and inspire.

But they insist their triumphs do not come without hard work.

“It’s such different work. It’s not physical,” Steele told GQ.

“And people will be like, ‘They don’t f—–g work’, but honestly, I reckon we work twice, if not three times harder, than what we did doing a 40-hour week on the job site.”
