Dolly Parton’s younger sister has slammed the “tremendous amount of AI and endless garbage” shared online since the singer’s death last month.

Stella Parton, also a singer, said people online were exploiting the very personal losses of others before moving on to the next tragedy.

While Parton’s family were grateful for the “genuine” support and love during their bereavement, Stella said they were also finding the online barrage difficult.

“Sadly, because of the way our lives have been lived in front of the public, we have no choice but to be subjected to incredible pressure and insensitivity from strangers,” she wrote on Instagram.

“There is a tremendous amount of AI and endless garbage being posted everyday and it’s been challenging to absorb and or ignore.”

“As time passes, those who are in the business of exploiting the loss and tragedies of others on a daily basis will move on to the next stampede of endless misinformation.”

Stella’s plea comes after the loved ones of other deceased celebrities such as actor Robin Williams complained about AI-generated material.

Williams’ children chose to revive the late actor’s Instagram account last month to fight back against what his daughter Zelda said was “rampant AI abuse of his voice and likeness”.

“As technology evolves, we want this to be a safe, trusted place where the stories, photos, videos, and memories shared reflect his legacy with authenticity, warmth, and care,” she said.

Actor Robert Redford’s daughter Amy Redford complained about AI versions of her father’s funeral plus fabricated tributes and quotes purporting to be family members.

“Renderings of my dad who clearly has no say, and depictions of my family that do not represent anyone in a positive light are extra challenging during a difficult time,” she said in November.

Dolly Parton was laid to rest beside her husband late last month, after an intimate funeral at Nashville’s Woodlawn Memorial Park and Mausoleum.

She died on August 25, aged 80, after a “brief battle with cancer”.

Stella said her family would be okay “in time”.

“Each of us will grieve in our own personal way,” she wrote. “Every human being experiences pain and loss in life and my family is no different.”

She said her “big sister Dolly would be surprised and delighted by the love her family and she has been shown during this time.”

“She loved her fans and the public in general,” she wrote. “That is the reason she chose not to express her opinions on a lot of things like politics, religion and individuals in the public eye.”
