It’s the snake v iguana chase scene that has slithered its way across the the planet.

There is a James Bond and Indiana Jones quality about the clip, which was aired during the first episode of the BBC’s Planet Earth 2, and shows a baby iguana fleeing a gang of snakes.

The iguana is chased across rocky terrain by countless racer snakes who momentarily capture and coil around their prey, before the iguana makes a miraculous escape.

The hatchling is chased for a second time, but manages to leap to safety in the final moments.

Even though Sir David Attenborough’s famous dulcet tones take a back seat in the clip, epic cinematic music accompanies the battle.

If today is my last day on this earth, at least I spent it watching that iguana/snake video 25 times in a row.

But it was not all good news on the iguana front.

The episode showed footage from Fernandina Island in the Galápagos Islands, in which newborn iguanas emerge from under the sand, only for dozens of the deadly predators to slither after them.

While a few manage to scurry away, others are trapped in the serpents’  jaws.

They then wrapped their bodies around the petrified babies before crushing them to death with a sickening crunch.

Some of the nine million British viewers took to social media labelling the footage “the stuff of nightmares”.
