Spice Girls star Melanie Chisholm secretly married her Australian boyfriend Chris Dingwall in Sydney before their grander wedding last weekend, former bandmate Victoria Beckham has revealed.

The 52-year-old Spice Girls singer – also known as Mel C and Sporty Spice – and Dingwall officially tired the knot in Britain’s Lake District on Saturday (local time), according to reports in the British media at the weekend.

The Mail on Sunday reported that Chisholm’s bandmates Geri Halliwell-Horner, Melanie Brown/Mel B, and Emma Bunton, were among the attendees. But the day was no Spice Girls reunion because Beckham was in the US with her husband, soccer legend David Beckham, for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

But she did spill some inside info on the couple’s real nuptials.

“I was actually having dinner with Melanie and asked her what she was up to,” she told British Vogue.

“She very casually told me she was leaving for Australia in two days and getting married.”

Beckham said she’d provided Chisholm’s “something borrowed” for the legal ceremony in Sydney – one of her own Victoria Beckham Lace Cami Dresses.

“When I asked what she was wearing, she mentioned she had actually ordered one of my dresses but that it didn’t quite fit, and she didn’t have time to get it altered before leaving,” Beckham said.

“I happened to have that exact dress in my own wardrobe and offered to lend it to her.”

Chisholm, who has been on Australian screens through The Voice Australia, said it was a special way of having Beckham at her Sydney wedding.

It also inspired Chisholm’s dress for the larger celebration in the Lakes District. The white backless, floor-length wedding gown was designed by Beckham.

“It was a gift from Victoria; they are really close. Victoria would have loved to have been there if she could,” a source told the Mail on Sunday.

“It was her great pleasure to make the dress for Mel.”

Chisholm’s 17-year-old daughter Scarlett – whose father is her ex-partner, property developer Thomas Starr – was her bridesmaid.

The Mail on Sunday reported that guests looked “alarmed” as cows from a nearby farm ran towards Country House Cumbria – owned by actor Ben Forster, 45, who starred alongside Chisholm in the musical Jesus Christ Superstar in 2013, and property developer Paul Longman – while she and Dingwall delivered their vows.

“Mel swore she would never get married, having a big do wasn’t really for her,” the source said.

“It is the perfect venue for them, totally out of the way but in the most beautiful place, and everyone had the most fantastic time.”

Chisholm and Dingwall have been in a relationship for about two years after meeting on celebrity dating app Raya.

She was in London at the time but had a DJ tour planned in Australia and thought Sydney-based Dingwall was “worth pursuing”. Chisholm landed in Sydney about 7am and met him at dinner that night.

“It was hard to get into, so I was like, ‘I don’t want to let the dude down,’ right? And we’ve been together ever since,” she said.

She has previously spoken openly about never believing marriage was for her.

“I’ve never, never wanted to marry. Maybe marriage works for some people, but maybe to think it works for the majority is an old-fashioned notion,” she told The Sunday Times in 2022.

However, speaking to the same newspaper earlier this year, Chisholm said her perspective had changed.

“[Marriage is] something I didn’t think would be part of my story. But I’m so happy with Chris,” she said.

“Maybe it is something that will be in my life. I just think, just do all the things. Do you know what I mean? Have all the experiences.”
