The artist: Singer, composer and harpist Joanna Newsom isn’t exactly everyone’s cup of tea. Her squeaky vocals and elaborate harp solos can alienate those who lean more towards mainstream music, but her fans are unfailingly loyal to her unique sound.

The 33-year-old, who is married to Saturday Night Live comedian Andy Samberg, has released her latest single Sapokanikan, named after an ancient settlement that once inhabited a part of New York.

Sapokanikan marks Newsom’s first new work in five years. It’s the first single off her upcoming album Divers.
