Rapper Snoop Dogg, who recently joined US athletes at a training camp, is about to become part of another elite group.

Snoop Dogg, 52, who is part of NBC’s coverage of the Paris Olympics, will carry the flame through the neighbourhood streets of Saint-Denis, a northern suburb of Paris, in one of its final stretches before Friday’s opening ceremony.

“You gots to do it,” the American rapper wrote on X, attaching a Rolling Stone story on his run on the streets on Friday.

“Will u be watchin??”

Other carriers of the torch in Saint-Denis on Friday will include French actress Laetitia Casta and French rapper MC Solaar.

Clad in an Olympic tracksuit, Snoop Dogg will jog past the main Olympic stadium, the Stade de France, according to the town’s mayor, Mathieu Hanotin.

“Saint Denis: Last step before the Eiffel Tower. An international cast [including] Snoop Dogg for the last stretch of the Olympic Flame,” Hanotin wrote.

The Olympic flame arrived in the southern French city of Marseilles on May 8. On its journey to Paris, 10,000 torchbearers have run or walked through 400 towns and cities, including five overseas regions (French Guiana, Reunion Island, French Polynesia, Guadeloupe, and Martinique), ahead of Friday’s Games opening extravaganza.

“The torch relay is, above all, a human adventure, represented by the stories of each torchbearer,” Paris Organising Committee president Tony Estanguet said.

“Be they athletes or sports enthusiasts, committed to their local communities or involved in meaningful community projects, the people we call the Forerunners represent the richness and diversity of our society.”

Snoop Dogg is not the only international celebrity on the radar in Paris, as rumours swirl that two big international stars will perform at the opening ceremony on the Seine River.

Canadian singer Celine Dion, 52 – who had not performed since her 2022 diagnosis with the rare stiff person syndrome – was spotted checking into the Royal Monceau Hotel in Paris on Monday, US celebrity website TMZ reported.

“Sources with direct knowledge tell us she is getting ready to take the stage Friday,” TMZ wrote.

“Our sources say she will be paid handsomely … $2 million [$3 million]!!!

“By the way, that’s for just ONE song!”

Lady Gaga, who is about to star alongside Joaquin Phoenix in The Joker sequel, was spotted leaving her Paris hotel earlier this week, blowing kisses to the crowd as she went.

Lending further buzz to reports she might also perform, a grand piano – Gaga’s trademark musical companion – has been seen under wraps on a barge on the Seine.

Actor Salma Hayek carried the Olympic torch in Versailles, with video posted on social media of her doing a cartwheel inside the palace while wearing her official white tracksuit.

The official Paris Olympics website also lists celebrities who have previously loved the Games, and who might head to the French capital to support their nation’s athletes.

They include actor Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Team India, Russell Crowe cheering on Australia, and Deadpool 3 star Ryan Reynolds, who will be watching Team Canada.

The ‘rave horse’ is back at Paris

Snoop Dogg is a writer, dancer and actor – and, according to ESPN, he’s known in the sports world for his Snoop Youth Football League.

The American football league for young players calls its championship game the “Snooper Bowl”.

But the US star also loves his horses. In a recent interview with talk show host Jimmy Fallon, Snoop said he was most looking forward to watching the equestrian events in Paris.

And, despite watching the best Olympians in the world, who is Snoop most excited to meet? Party-loving horse Suppenkasper (‘Mopsie’), who became an internet sensation at the Tokyo Games with his rider, five-time US Olympian Steffen Peters.

The pair wowed with their incredible dressage dance moves – and Mopsie can apparently “crip-walk” [a 1970s Californian gang dance move] better than most humans.

“I gotta go meet him, you know what I’m saying?” Snoop said, with his signature cool.

“And let him know I’m a big fan.”
