When the most divisive man in the US is found guilty on 34 felony charges of course the country is going to be heavily divided.

Unsurprisingly, Donald Trump came out swinging when he was found guilty of covering up hush money payments to adult actress Stormy Daniels, vowing to “fight to the end”.

“This was a disgrace. This was a rigged trial by a conflicted judge who is corrupt … We’ll keep fighting,” he said, after leaving the Manhattan courtroom.

“We’ll fight to the end, and we’ll win … The real verdict is going to be November 5, by the people. They know what happened here. I am a very innocent man.”

Meanwhile, others basked in the fact Trump is now the first former president to be found guilty of a crime.

Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’ campaign said the verdict showed “no one is above the law”.

From actual meltdowns, to celebratory steins, here’s how people reacted to the jury’s historic verdict.

34 ounces of justice

The Midlands Beer Garden in Washington DC decided a celebration was in order following the verdict.

“We will be celebrating with 34 ounces of justice,” the pub’s Instagram story said.

“Come celebrate with us all weekend long with $10 steins on select beers!”

‘Shameful day’

Mike Johnson, the House speaker who is currently third in line for the presidency, slammed the verdict on social media.

“Democrats cheered as they convicted the leader of the opposing party on ridiculous charges, predicated on the testimony of a disbarred, convicted felon. This was a purely political exercise, not a legal one,” he said.

Georgia representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, who recently tried to oust Johnson, had a particularly unhinged reaction to John Bolton, Trump’s former national security advisor, turned critic.

How about go f**k yourself John Bolton and the rest of the Deep State cabal,” she wrote on X.

“Trump is the ONLY ONE!!!!”

GOP given ‘marching orders’

According to NBC News, after the verdict Republican National Committee political director James Blair gave “marching orders” to all 50 GOP state chairs.

“There is a clear message [the RNC] wants us to convey: It is an unjust witch hunt,” a source on the call revealed.

“We will appeal, and we will win the appeal. Guys, we just elected the next president of the United States.”

However, not all Republicans are rejecting the jury’s decision.

Larry Hogan, who is running for a Senate seat, called for Americans to “respect the verdict and legal process”.

Fury and violence

Some of Trump’s supporters are calling for violence.

According to Reuters, one Trump supporter called for someone to take care of Judge Juan Merchan.

Hopefully he gets met with illegals with a machete,” someone reportedly said.

“1,000,000 men (armed) need to go to Washington and hang everyone. That’s the only solution,” one poster on Patriots.win said.

According to CNN, many Trump supporters outside court expressed their lack of trust in the US justice system.

Many echoed sentiments that the trial was just to ensure Trump stays out of the White House, because Biden “can’t win in the polls”.

Covfefelon

Of course, some people just had hilarious responses to the verdict.

An X account dedicated to films reminded the world that Trump was once in a very iconic Christmas movie.

Home Alone 2: Lost In New York’ star Donald Trump has been found guilty of 34 felony counts,” the account wrote.

One person simply tweeted “Covfefelon”, a nod to the infamous “covfefe” typo Trump made in 2017.

Another person correctly pointed out that this was in fact Trump’s first “landslide”, while someone else joked that he finally won the popular vote.

Australia reacts

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese avoided commenting on the case.  Albanese said Australia enjoys a good relationship with the US, regardless of who is in office.

When asked about the verdict, Opposition Leader Peter Dutton said there were “two tribes” in the US, those who hate Trump and those who love him.

“All it will do is reinforce the views of both of those camps,” Dutton said.

“But obviously it will make for an even more exciting election in November.”

Meanwhile, Greens Senator Sarah Hanson-Young maintains Trump is a risk to democracy across the world.

“We have to start having some hard discussions and deep thought about what this means for our relationship,” Hanson-Young said.
