An Australian Defence Force member has died and five others have been injured in a training exercise in Darwin.

The defence force confirmed the army member died during an exercise at the Mount Bundey training area, about 100 kilometres south-east of Darwin, on Monday.

Five other soldiers were also injured in the incident, the force said.

“Next of kin have been notified,” the defence spokesman said.

“We request that the privacy of defence members and families is respected at this time.

“Defence will provide further updates when possible.”

Mount Bundey is a live-fire training area that is used by the ADF and Australia’s allies.
