Australia’s third biggest lottery winner initially thought she was being pranked when a caller told her she had scooped the $100 million Powerball jackpot.

The woman, from Ballina in the NSW Northern Rivers, held the only division-one winning entry in the draw on Thursday night.

Powerball operator The Lott said she screamed when it called to tell her the news.

“What the f—! I’m still in shock. No, this can’t be happening!” she told the caller.

“No, c’mon… Is this my cousin pranking me? My cousin is pranking me!”

The woman, who was with family members when she took the call, said they had all brought tickets and it was “a bit of FOMO (fear of missing out)” that prompted her to purchase one online herself just before draw closed.

“We recently had a death in the family, and I think it’s a sign from them; they’re so looking after me,” she said.

“We’ve had signs all day from them; things moving, cans moving, bags waving in the wind.”

The new multi-millionaire, who paid $18.90 for the 12-game QuickPick entry, told The Lott the money would enable her to pay off her mortgage, with plenty left over to share around.

“This will help a lot of people. Not just me but lots of family members.”

The first order of the day, however, was to crack open some champagne and celebrate.

“Now we have to see how we’re going to get the Moët delivered,” she said.

“I’ll be celebrating with breakfast in bed tomorrow – scrambled eggs and bacon for me!”
