An 11-year-old boy has died in hospital three days after being shot in the face at an apartment, as police investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Daily Telegraph reports the boy’s life support was switched off. His heartbroken father told the outlet: “He didn’t make it.”

The father is reportedly a known convicted drug dealer who had only six months ago become reacquainted with his son after splitting with the boy’s mother several years ago.

He had organised a vigil outside the hospital to pray for his son’s survival, telling The Telegraph: “I’m praying to Jesus for a miracle,” and describing the shooting as “an accident” and “a tragedy”.

The boy had gunshot wounds to the face and neck after an incident at an apartment in Norwest Sydney, on Monday afternoon.

On Thursday night police were told he had died from his injuries.

Second child dies after stabbing

In a separate tragedy, a one-year-old lost its fight for life, days after passers-by discovered a car full of stabbed children.

Three children — aged one, three and five — and a 42-year-old woman were discovered with wounded in Sydney’s Blue Mountains about midday on Sunday.

Witnesses offered first aid on the side of Waratah Road before emergency services arrived.

Paramedics pronounced a five-year-old child dead at the scene and treated the others.

On Thursday evening, police confirmed the one-year-old child had died at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead.

The three-year-old remains at the hospital in a critical condition.

The woman was also treated at Westmead Hospital.

Detectives on Tuesday charged the woman in a bedside court hearing with murder — domestic violence.

Authorities also charged her with two counts of wounding with intent to murder — domestic violence at the time.

She was denied bail to appear before Penrith Local Court in November.

“The woman will face an additional charge of murder over the death of the one-year-old child,” a NSW Police spokesperson said on Wednesday.

Shooting investigation continues

Meanwhile investigations continue into the Norwest shooting.

Police said they were met at the unit in Norwest on Monday by the victim, four 18-year-old men and a 44-year-old woman.

Three men were arrested before one was charged with concealing a serious indictable offence and two were released pending further inquiries.

Several witnesses are believed to have been at the unit before police arrived, and police were investigating possible organised crime links among those present.

”A number of individuals that were inside the unit at the time are well known to NSW Police and their association with organised crime is being considered,” Superintendent Naomi Moore said on Tuesday.

”We do not know, and we are not eliminating any possibility about how this tragic situation happened.”

Investigations have so far failed to turn up a weapon.

In response to questioning on Tuesday, Moore said she would not suggest there was a ”gunman, so to speak” that police were looking for.

The nature of the gathering in the unit remained a line of police inquiry.

The two men arrested and released might still face further police scrutiny.

The man charged with concealing an indictable offence faced court on Tuesday and will remain behind bars until his case returns to court in October.
