A manhunt is underway after a man was shot dead during a violent home invasion in the early hours of the morning.
Emergency services were called to a home in Glen Alpine, near Campbelltown in Sydney’s south-west, at about 3.40am on Tuesday after reports of a home invasion.
Inside the house, they found a man with a gunshot wound but were unable to save him.
The man, who is believed to be in his 20s and is yet to be formally identified, died at the scene.
Police said the unknown offenders are still on the run.
“Officers were told the unknown offenders left the scene a short time before police arrival,” NSW Police said in a statement.
“A crime scene has been established and an investigation into the incident has commenced with the assistance of officers attached to the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad.”
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
