Police are hunting for a gunman after a brutal fatal shooting early on Monday in western Sydney.

Emergency responders were called to Harold Street, Parramatta, just after 3.30am after reports of a shooting.

A male victim, believed to be aged 29, was treated by paramedics, but he died at the scene.

The victim is yet to be formally identified.

Sunrise reports the man was believed to have been shot multiple times inside his own unit.

About 15 minutes later, Fire and Rescue NSW was called to the nearby suburb of Granville, after reports of a car fully alight in the area.

“Firefighters quickly got to work to contain the blaze which was threatening nearby cars and properties,” FRNSW said on Monday.

“The fire was extinguished within 45 minutes.”

Investigators are working to determine if the burning vehicle in Abeckett Street was the getaway car from the earlier shooting.

The gunman remains on the run and a crime scene has been established. It will be examined by specialist police.

Detectives urge anyone with information, CCTV or dash cam vision in relation to this incident to contact Parramatta Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Melbourne carjacking

Two women have been arrested after the alleged stabbing of a man during a carjacking in Cranbourne, in Melbourne’s outer-south-east on Sunday night.

It is believed the pair attempted to carjack a woman on Sladen Street about 9.40pm, but were unsuccessful in that attempt.

A few minutes later, it is believed the pair walked to a strip of shops on Lurline Street, where they approached a 35-year-old Clyde North man.

Officers have been told the pair stabbed the man and stole his vehicle before driving it to Pakenham.

The man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Both women were arrested by officers a short time later.

Police are speaking to a 33-year-old Mornington woman and a 28-year-old Carrum Downs woman in relation to the incident.

Anyone with information or anyone with CCTV or dash cam footage is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report at crimestoppers.com.au.
