A police pursuit across Sydney’s west has ended with the arrests of a man and a woman after their vehicle crashed.

The chase was sparked when officers detected a suspected stolen vehicle travelling on the Hume Highway in Prestons, southwest of Liverpool about 9.30am on Thursday.

When the Hyundai Sonata sedan failed to stop as directed police initiated a pursuit, but were forced to call it off soon after due to safety concerns.

Police continued to track the vehicle from above by helicopter and followed it to North Rocks, north of Parramatta.

The vehicle crashed into a pole on North Rocks Road about 11am and the male driver and female passenger were arrested.

Inquiries are continuing and charges are yet to be laid.
