A father has been charged with stabbing his son in a domestic dispute on the NSW mid-north coast.

A 33-year-old man was found with a stab wound to his neck at a home in Nambucca Heads on Monday night before being taken to Coffs Harbour Hospital, where he remains in a critical but stable condition.

The 58-year-old father was arrested at the home and later charged with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and reckless wounding, police say.

He was granted conditional bail to appear before Macksville Local Court on Thursday.
