Man shot during bowls club robbery

Police in Wollongong are searching for two men who shot at a patron after robbing a bowling club at Kiama on the New South Wales south coast last night.

Police say the men were armed with a knife and a pistol when they walked into the bowling club on Noorinan Street about 11.30pm.

They threatened staff and demanded cash from the tills.

Duty Officer Phil O’Neil from the Wollongong Command says a patron tried to stop the robbers, and the man armed with the pistol turned around and took a shot at the patron’s head.

Officer O’Neil says the man was lucky the shot missed and hit the wall behind him.

“No-one was injured and the offenders left on foot, the police have arrived and taken some statements and established a crime scene,” he said.

The offenders ran off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

They are described as caucasian, with thin builds and wearing dark tracksuits.
