Young Aussie takes on mammoth walk to help sick children in remote communities

A 12-year-old boy from regional New South Wales is preparing to walk 540 kilometres from Warren to Canberra to raise money for the children’s charity Little Wings.

Dusty Langby will spend 16 days completing the journey, hoping to raise $1 million to help fund specialist medical care for children living in rural and remote communities.

The charity uses donations to fly paediatric specialists to regional towns and transport patients to city hospitals when needed.

Dusty said the idea came to him as a way to make a difference for children growing up in the bush.

After months of training — and wearing out three pairs of shoes — he will be joined by his mum, Sarah, along with hundreds of supporters taking part in different stages of the walk.

The walk begins on 30 August, with Dusty also hoping to meet Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in Canberra and ask him to match the amount he raises.

Little Wings CEO Clare Pearson said the fundraiser would help ensure more children in regional Australia receive the specialist healthcare they need.
