Top Videos: An amazing bridge save, midair drama, wild weather and a goanna arrest

Dramatic police bodycam footage from the US has captured the moment a man was literally saved by the long arm of the law.

The video, released by Oklahoma City Police this week, shows Officer William Reyes responding to a welfare check on a man apparently sleeping on the edge of a bridge.

As Reyes approaches, the man is seen rolling to his side, and begins falling off the bridge.

Reyes quickly grabbed the man’s hoodie and successfully pulls him tp safety with the help of a passerby.

Police said the unidentified man was unhurt.

Airline arrest

Passengers on a United Airlines flight were forced to intervene to subdue a fellow traveller apparently attempting destroy his seat.

Footage released this week of the man shows him repeatedly kicking a seat before he was restrained and tied up by passengers as the plane flew from Austin, Texas, to Los Angeles.

The man, wearing a dark jumper, grey sweatpants and white Nike runners, could be seen standing on a seat and kicking the back of it at least 10 times until it lay flat into the empty row behind.

The behaviour was filmed by passenger Gino Galofaro, who said he and other passengers restrained the man by cable-tying his hands and feet.

Wild weather

Melbourne residents paid for their unseasonably hot weather at the start of the week with a sudden and savage night of storms on Tuesday.

The SES received about 220 calls for assistance on Wednesday as trees were brought down and buildings damaged in the storm.

The rain came in a wild week of weather across Australia with heatwaves, storms and flash flooding for much of the country.

Meanwhile, in England

Video shows the rapid flooding of the British town of Tenbury Wells after a local sea wall collapsed.

The UK was hit with heavy rainfall, flooding and strong winds as Storm Bert wreaked havoc last weekend.

Tenbury Wells residents faced a major cleanup after the collapsed sea wall allowed a “tidal surge” that left the parts of the town up to four metres under water.

Scaly situation

Policeman in Carnarvon, Western Australia, were forced to arrest an angry goanna after attempts to move it on were rebuffed.

Bodycam footage released by WA Police show officers taking the two-metre monitor into custody in front of a crowd of onlookers.

Police say the goanna had been “very aggressive” towards  bystanders in the town’s centre and had tucked itself behind a shed.

Several attempts to encourage it to leave the property were angrily ignored before the officers decided use firmer tactics.

Wildlife carer Michelle Jones told the ABC the lizard likely felt threatened by the number of people there, causing it to act menacingly.

Beetlemania

Australia’s capitol, already a popular travel destination, has been inundated with millions of visitors this week.

Canberrans have reported a plague of  beetles descending on their homes and businesses.

Entomologist say the insects in question are scarab beetles and blame the unseasonably hot weather for their prolific numbers.

Running with goats

And if you’re in need of something reassuring to end your week, look no further than North Carolina woman Ali Tisdall’s “Goat Run Club”.

Tisdall, a committed runner, discovered that soon after adding goats to her property, she also acquired a troop of dedicated running mates.

“I appear to have goats that follow me on 3-4 mile (five-6½-kilometre) runs,”she posted.
