Sydney’s new metro
After seven years of construction, the Sydney Metro City finally opened this week, allowing thousands of people to zoom under Sydney Harbour at 100km/h.
An extension of the Metro Norwthwest line, the newly-opened section runs between Chatswood and Sydenham; a final section between Sydenham and Bankstown is set to be completed next year.
The convenience for Sydney commuters comes with a steep price tag of $21.6 billion – almost $10 billion more than the $12 billion forecasted.
But so far, Sydneysiders seem happy with the results.
Lil Jon fires up Democrats
Rapper Lil Jon turned the Democratic National Convention into a party as he performed his iconic 2013 tune, Turn Down for What (featuring DJ Snake).
The surprise appearance came on the heels of a meme which went viral in response to Harris’ selection of Walz as running mate.
The lyrics of Lil Jon’s Get Low from “to the window, to the wall” were changed by social media users into “to the window, to the Walz” – which Lil Jon referenced in his performance.
German navy plays The Imperial March
Germany’s navy said there was “no deeper message” when it blasted The Imperial March — Darth Vader’s theme song in the Star Wars series — from one of its warships as it cruised down the River Thames through London.
The warship was in the area for training and dropped anchor in London for a normal supply stop, the German navy said.
In a statement, the German embassy in London said the warship’s commander was “a big ‘Star Wars’ fan and an admirer of the legendary musical scores of John Williams”.
“He chooses a different Williams tune whenever his ship is visiting a foreign harbor (sic).”
