The most Aussie farewell to the Olympics

Australia left Paris 2024 with 53 medals, so our athletes had much to celebrate.

And they did so in true Aussie fashion – by breaking into the Nutbush ahead of the closing ceremony.

Sea of green and gold

Days after the closing ceremony, a wave of Australian olympians headed home, proudly decked-out in green and gold gear.

Truss storms off after lettuce stunt

Former UK prime minister Liz Truss stormed off stage after a political campaign group dropped a banner featuring a lettuce as she voiced her support for Donald Trump.

The lettuce referenced Truss’ legacy as the UK’s shortest-serving prime minister; she resigned after 49 days in office – less time than it took for an iceberg lettuce to rot.

Tabloid outlet Daily Star had created a live-feed to test whether her term in office would outlast a 60-pence iceberg lettuce in response to Truss’ mini-Budget, which included £45 billion ($87 billion) of unfunded tax cuts and triggered economic turmoil.

Political campaign group Led by Donkeys claimed credit for the stunt, which Truss labelled an attempt by far-left activists to suppress free speech.

Show goes on after terror scare

Taylor Swift seemed overjoyed to be back on stage in London after her Eras tour dates in Vienna were cancelled after police discovered a terror plot for one of her concerts.

Swift reportedly did not mention the recent terror threat while performing in London, but security at Wembley Stadium was tightened.

Zuckerberg’s rock solid love

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg unveiled a 2.1-metre statue of his wife Priscilla Chan, explaining he was “bringing back the Roman tradition of making sculptures of your wife”.

Very cute, George. Now get writing!

Danes spice up their lives

Danish authorities lifted a ban on two out of three varieties of Samyang Foods’ Buldak instant ramen noodles, which had been removed from shelves due to supposed dangerous levels of spiciness.

Cat’s villain origin story

Not all cats are born evil; some were made that way.

Roar practice

A little lion cub showed off its early attempts at roaring.

@wildlife_rescuers Check out our adorable lion bracelet in the bio! With each purchase, 25% of the proceeds are donated to our wildlife charity partners, who are dedicated to saving lions and African wildlife. Your support can make a real difference! Shop now and help make an impact! Baby lions, known as cubs, are born with a soft, tawny coat and are completely dependent on their mothers for the first few months of their lives. As they grow, lion cubs start practicing their roars, which begin as soft, raspy sounds and gradually become more powerful. These early roars are important for developing their vocal strength and communication skills, which will be crucial for marking their territory and interacting with other lions. Sadly, lions, including their young, are considered vulnerable due to habitat loss, human-wildlife conflict, and poaching.
