Watch: Whale disrupts Olympics, while Wiggles tease Kpop move

Source: TND

This week, a whale made a splash at the Olympics, while endearing interactions between competitors made headlines.

Chappell Roan had a record-breaking festival crowd ‘Hot To Go’, The Wiggles teased a collaboration with one of Kpop’s top girl groups, and a dog accidentally started a house fire.

Whale makes Olympic debut

Gatecrashers aren’t typically welcomed at the Olympics, but a humpback whale proved to be an exception during a surfing event in Tahiti.

The whale kept its distance from surfers, but one judge still awarded it “a perfect 10”.

Its presence was not a complete surprise, given humpback whales typically migrate through the warm waters around French Polynesia between July and November to breed.

Want some fries with that gold medal?

What do you do when you become Australia’s youngest gold medallist?

If you’re 14-year-old skateboarder Arisa Trew, you treat yourself to some Maccas fries while cruising the streets of Paris.

She might have been on her way to remind her parents of a certain promised pet duck for her win.

Ultimate show of respect

Brazilian gymnast Rebeca Andrade won gold this week, and her American competitors won hearts with their sweet show of respect on the first all-Black gymnastic podium.

Simone Biles and Jordan Chiles, who won silver and bronze respectively, spontaneously bowed down to Andrade.

Biles later said, “She’s so amazing. She’s queen.”

“And first, it was an all-Black podium, so that was super exciting for us.

“But then Jordan was like, ‘Should we bow to her?’ And I was like, ‘Absolutely.’ So we’re like, ‘Are we gonna do it now?’ And then, that’s why we did it.”

Taste of Olympic success

Chinese gymnast Zhou Yaqin made a splashy Olympic debut with a silver win, and proved to be an endearingly quick learner when it came time for a quirky podium tradition.

Zhou looked puzzled as fellow medallists, Italy’s Alice D’Amato and Manila Esposito, bit their medals – but the 18-year-old was quick to follow suit anyway.

The celebratory biting of medals comes from a time when traders bit their gold coins to check if they were real.

Today, it is simply a popular pose for athletes.

Record turnout for viral star

A decade of hard work is definitely paying off for Chappell Roan, whose Lollapalooza performance reportedly drew in the festival’s biggest-ever crowd.

And that’s quite a feat, given about 110,000 people attended each day of the festival this year.

Aussie childhood meets Kpop’s new wave

This week, The Wiggles revealed they had met up with South Korean girl group Ive during the latter’s Australia tour.

A collaboration may be on the way, with The Wiggles teasing, “Our next single is gonna blow minds.”

How to tell sharks to ‘shove off’

Being stalked by a shark might be a nightmare for most, but a professional shark diver showed how to keep your cool if that situation becomes reality.

Corgi annihilation

Corgis might be on the cuter spectrum of dogs, but one feisty canine showed off his (still adorable) ruthless side during a race.
