Videos of the Week: Trump’s miraculous miss, Hulk Hogan strip, and amazing frost

Source: The New Daily

Few videos in the past week could surpass the live video of the attempted assassination of Donald Trump.

That is until wrestling great Hulk Hogan appeared at the Republican National Convention on Friday to show us exactly how angry he was about the shooting.

And while most of us are preparing to watch the Paris Olympics from our sofas this month, the city’s mayor has gone to great lengths to show the world how safe one of the Games venues really is.

These are our videos of the week.

Trump’s near miss

The world was stunned as it watch a former president get shot through the ear by a would-be assassin live on air.

The footage was watched by millions over the following days but one video showed just how close Trump came to losing his life.

A computer generated 3D visualisation, created by Point Consciousness, shows an aerial view of the gunman’s bullet skimming Trump’s ear right after he moved his head.

The graphic also shows the path the bullet would have taken if Trump did not move his head at the last second.

Stripping for Trump

Trump’s supporters have been understandably outraged by the violent attack on the presidential nominee, and none more than former professional wrestler Hulk Hogan.

Appearing at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee on Friday, Hogan rekindled some of his famous showmanship.

As he spoke, Hogan – whose real name is Terry Bollea – expressed his anger at the “people” who tried to kill his “hero”.

Hogan proceeded to take off his jacket to expose an American flag tank top, which he tore in half to reveal a red cut-off tank top emblazoned with Trump for president.

He then proceeded to cry: “Let Trump-a-mania make America great again.”

Lend me your ears

Other Trump supporters supported their nominee in a less verbal fashion.

As Trump emerged from the assassination attempt with a bandaged ear, his supporters showed solidarity by putting bandages on their ears.

On the second night of the Republican convention, delegates and attendees were seen wearing makeshift “bandages” – from folded-up slips of paper to pieces of tape – on their ears.

Among them was Arizona delegate Joe Neglia, who told CBS News he folded up an envelope “on the bus on the way here” to wear on his right ear.

Pistachio pup

Of course not everyone has been taking note of American politics, and for some a roll around in nature is the antidote to an increasingly complicated world.

For one-year-old golden retriever Ruby, that temptation had some unintended consequences.

After rolling around in the freshly-mown grass of her Connecticut home, Ruby seemed a little green around the gills, and elsewhere.

Olympic dream

While many of us imagine what it would be like to compete at an Olympic Games, former hopeful Molly Carlson let us in on a very different dream.

The Canadian high diver, who narrowly missed out on competing at Rio in 2016, will be in Paris this year creating content for her millions of TikTok fans.

Her latest offering gives a glimpse of her vision of an ideal Olympics.

Brave mayor

Of course many Olympic events will actually be held in the water, including – controversially – open water events in the River Seine.

Notoriously polluted, the decision to hold events in the famous Paris river has been met with scepticism.

Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo this week led a group of about 100 officials, athletes and locals to the banks of the Seine as she took a dip to prove the safety of the water.

Her swim was postponed twice because of fluctuating pollution levels.

Queen Kylie

Australia’s Kylie Minogue was faced with a challenge of her own when making her way to perform at the British Summer Time (BST) concert in London’s Hyde Park.

Wearing extremely high heels and having to go down a perforated temporary pathway, Minogue relied on friends to get to the gig.

“Feeling like a Queen,” she posted as friends Jonathan and Andrew carried her to safety.

Seagull menace

British Summer Time was not the only major concert in Britain this month, as music lovers flocked to Glastonbury.

One concert food vendor found that there is no keeping seagulls away from chips, especially the human variety.

Frosty reception

While many Australians are shivering through an icy winter, footage from New Zealand shows the beauty of a frosty morning.

Photographer and content creator Wally Fonseca introduced the world to hoar frost with drone footage taken in Twizel, New Zealand.

“Hoar frost is a natural phenomenon that creates beautiful, icy patterns on cold surfaces,” Fonseca posted.

He also said that the weather was so cold his drone froze after shooting video and its motor overheated.
