A neighbour burst into a home and risked his life trying to disarm a knife-wielding attacker in a desperate bid to save a man, police say.

Andrew Duncan Murray, 66, died after allegedly being stabbed in an altercation with two guests at his suburban residence south of Brisbane.

Jillian Greer Francis, 43, and Lindsay James Kohn, 47, have been charged with murder after what police described as a serious and violent assault involving the three Beenleigh residents.

Police were called to the home about 4.45pm on Tuesday after a woman reported a man at the address needed urgent medical help, Logan District Detective Inspector Ian Galpin said on Wednesday.

Emergency crews found Murray with critical injuries, and despite frantic efforts to save him, he died at the scene.

Francis had allegedly been invited to stay at the home about four months ago under a temporary arrangement, while Kohn also stayed there at times.

Police allege tensions had been building and Murray recently asked the pair to leave the address.

When Murray arrived home on Tuesday, he found that his guests had locked him out of his own property.

”He forced entry, and at that point in time, police will allege he was assaulted by both persons,” Galpin said.

The neighbour heard the disturbance and disarmed the woman, separated the parties, and provided first aid to Murray.

The good Samaritan narrowly avoided being seriously hurt when Francis allegedly struck out at him with the knife, police said.

A knife has been seized as part of the murder investigation.

Galpin said an examination of the scene also revealed several broken plates.

He said the exact cause of death was yet to be determined, with an autopsy to be conducted, but confirmed the man suffered multiple stab wounds.

Kohn, from Carole Park, was taken to the Brisbane City Watchhouse and charged with murder.

Francis, from Bethania, was initially taken to hospital for observation before being transported to the watchhouse, where she was charged with murder and other offences, including acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm.

Police allege the grievous bodily harm charge relates to the woman’s actions toward the good Samaritan.

Galpin said the alleged incident had occurred in a tight-knit community and neighbours had gathered outside the home on Tuesday night to comfort each other.

Floral tributes were laid outside the Beenleigh home on Wednesday in the wake of the tragedy.

Police would continue to offer support to residents affected by the incident, he said.

Francis and Kohn were not required to appear when their matters were briefly mentioned in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

They were remanded in custody, with the case adjourned to Beenleigh Magistrates Court on September 23.
