Eight teenagers have been charged with murder after a 21-year-old died when violence erupted at a large party at an Airbnb south of Brisbane.

Queensland police allege that a group of teens turned up at the gathering in the Logan suburb of Bahrs Scrub on July 26 armed with “various weapons” and a “preconceived plan” to do harm.

What has previously been described as an “all-out brawl” spilled out onto the street, and officers called to the disturbance found a 21-year-old unconscious with significant head injuries.

The young Redbank Plains man, Jongkuch Peter Kur Jongkuch Achiew, was taken to hospital but died six days later.

Four teenagers were initially arrested on August 6, while three more 18-year-olds and a 17-year-old were taken into custody in Morayfield late Sunday afternoon. All are facing murder charges

”More than 80 police were involved in the execution of 14 search warrants across three police districts,” Detective Inspector Ian Galpin said on Monday.

“Police will allege that this group had a preconceived plan which included arming themselves with various weapons.”

Police have warned more arrests are possible in relation to brawl, which also left the house and several vehicles damaged.

A post on a Facebook page for people of Biong heritage from South Sudan acknowledged Achiew’s death last week and thanked first responders involved in the tragic incident.

“This is a life cut far too short, and a loss felt profoundly by all who knew and loved him,” it said.

Galpin said police liaison officers and community leaders had been working to prevent any retaliation.

”Everyone that we have spoken to, they want nothing but peace within their community, and that’s why I’m confident there won’t be any further retaliation,” Galpin said.

”We’ll continue to support the community, and we’ll also continue to deliver our message that any form of violence will not be tolerated.”
