A former Home and Away star is on the run after failing to appear in court over the violent assault of a woman at a Melbourne home.

Orpheus Pledger, who played Mason Morgan in more than 300 episodes of the Seven Network show, was reportedly being escorted by police to the Royal Melbourne Hospital for a court-ordered medical assessment on Monday when he escaped.

He has not been seen since.

The 30-year-old had been due in court for his trial on Tuesday, but did not appear.

On Wednesday, Victoria Police issued a public appeal to help find him.

Earlier the court released CCTV footage appearing to show Pledger grabbing the victim from behind and throwing her to the floor in the alleged assault in suburban Melbourne on March 25.

It also heard how he allegedly stomped on the woman’s head so hard the impact left an imprint of sneakers on her face.

The victim was taken to hospital with bruising on her neck and minor cuts on her cheek.

Sky News Australia reports that the woman called Victoria Police early on March 25, saying only “he’s coming” before the line disconnected.

Pledger’s manager, Craig McMahon, said he had had no contact with the actor in recent days, but he was shocked by the assault allegations.

McMahon condemned violence against women and said Pledger had suffered mental health issues for some time.

“We are absolutely devastated. This is a young man. It’s awful on every account for everyone involved,” he told the Nine newspapers.

McMahon said Pledger had previously attempted to access mental health treatment and had co-operated with his management team’s attempts to get him help.

Melbourne-born Pledger’s screen career began in The Secret Life of Us in 2001, when he was aged just eight.

He has also appeared on Neighbours, Blue Heelers, McLeod’s Daughters and House Husbands, although he is best known for his role in Home and Away from 2016 to 2019.

Pledger’s most recent appearance was on SAS Australia in 2022, but he left the reality program after just two days.

Pledger is described as about 170 centimetres tall with brown hair and tanned complexion.

He is known to frequent Northcote and surrounding areas in Melbourne’s inner north.
