Second ‘ISIS brides’ cohort due to arrive in Australia

A heavy police presence is expected at Sydney and Melbourne airports with a second cohort of so-called ISIS brides reportedly due to land on Tuesday afternoon.
The group of six Australian women and 14 children linked to the terrorist group Islamic State are reportedly in the air on a flight from Qatar.
One woman did not depart with the rest.
Last week they left the Al-Roj refugee camp in Syria.
On Monday it was confirmed that plane tickets from Doha, in Qatar, to Australia had been purchased.
Channel Seven’s Sunrise reported on Tuesday morning that the women were on their way to Melbourne and Sydney and were due to touch down around 5.30pm.
They are reportedly flying Qatar Airways on flight QR908.
It had been expected that one member of the group would not be allowed to fly to Australia, after the federal government imposed a temporary exclusion order on the person.
The exclusion order would ban the person from entering Australia for two years due to national security grounds, despite being a citizen.
The Australian women originally travelled to the Middle East with men who sought to fight for Islamic State before the caliphate was toppled in 2019.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has previously said some of the women can expect to face charges on their arrival in Australia.
Three of the women in that group were arrested upon their arrival. They remain in custody.
Two face charges relating to slavery, and the other was charged with joining a terrorist organisation and travelling to a declared conflict zone.
Albanese said the federal government had offered them no assistance.
