New video shows another hero tackling Bondi gunman

New footage appears to show another two Bondi heroes attempting to stop one of the shooters by grabbing his weapon before their deadly rampage.

Dashcam video has emerged of an older man wrestling with the shooter — widely believed to be Sajid Akram, 50, — just metres from the footbridge.

The brave man wearing a purple shirt and the shooter fall onto the road.

The man then manages to wrest the gun from the killer and wields it like a bat to try and keep him at bay.

The brief vision was captured by a passing car and shows the male hero was accompanied by an older woman.

Later, the man and woman are seen lying together on the footpath — seemingly shot.

The footage is believed to show what could be the first victims of the Bondi mass shooting, before the father and son terrorists began firing at people from the footbridge.

The video was circulating on Chinese social media on Tuesday, quoting Jenny as the woman who posted the material.

She said the sight of the two bodies on the news later on Sunday left her speechless and in tears.

“The elderly man, instead of running, rushed towards the danger, fought desperately to grab the gun, and grappled with him fiercely,” she wrote.

“Such a civilian hero shouldn’t be forgotten!”

Stories of heroism have been emerging from the horror of the Bondi massacre.

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese visited Ahmed Al Ahmed, the hero shop owner who disarmed one of the Bondi gunmen, in hospital.

The 43-year-old father ripped a gun out of the hands of one of the attackers and underwent surgery after being shot in his left shoulder and hand.

He’s in pain but accompanied by his family who are equal parts worried and proud of his heroism, according to Lubaba Alhmidi Alkahil, who took flowers and food to his hospital room on Monday.

Albanese thanked Al Ahmed on behalf of all Australians.

“Ahmed, you are an Australian hero.

“You put yourself at risk to save others, running towards danger on Bondi Beach and disarming a terrorist.

“In the worst of times, we see the best of Australians. And that’s exactly what we saw on Sunday night.”

An online fundraiser to recognise the small business owner for his bravery had raised more than $2 million by midday Tuesday.

Surf lifesavers at Bondi and North Bondi are also among the heroes.

Multiple volunteers ran out under fire to perform CPR and provide first aid, Surf Life Saving NSW chief executive Steven Pearce said.

“Surf Life Saving is a frontline emergency service and that was never more important than last night,” he told AAP.

“There is not a bandage or a Band-Aid left in any of the surf clubs, all the boards were used as stretchers.”

The North Bondi clubhouse had about 200 people sheltering inside and receiving medical attention while the police operation continued, president Steven Lanarch said.

At least 16 people died and many more were left injured after the gunmen took aim at a crowd gathered for a Hanukkah celebration at the beach just before 7pm on Sunday.

One of the gunmen, Naveed Akram, 24, is in police custody while the other, his 50-year-old father Sajid, was killed.

Multiple videos posted to social media show the two gunmen standing on a footbridge connecting Campbell Parade to the Bondi Pavilion and firing shots into a crowd.

Footage shows Al Ahmed crouching behind a vehicle in the nearby car park, before sneaking up behind a gunman and wrestling the weapon from his grip.

The altercation sent the shooter staggering to the ground, before he got up and walked towards the pedestrian bridge from which the other gunman continued to fire.

Leaders hailed the heroes who ran toward danger to stop the attack or help the injured.

“To the brave first responders, including ordinary citizens who acted yesterday – thank you for what you do,” Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said.

“People rushing towards danger to show the best of the Australian character.”
