A commercial flight heading for Thailand has made an emergency landing after a mechanical error, causing delays to other evening flights.

Flight JQ27 to Phuket landed back in Sydney before 5pm on Wednesday after circling in the air for two hours to burn fuel.

Jetstar confirmed the plane damaged one of its 10 wheels during take-off, resulting in an emergency landing.

The pilot requested a priority landing and emergency services met the aircraft on landing as a precaution.

No one is believed to be injured and the landing was safe, a spokesperson said.

A Sydney Airport spokesperson said the main runway was closed for 30 minutes to allow the aircraft to be towed to the gate.

“Normal operations have resumed and while we do not expect any significant disruptions, there may be some delays throughout the evening,” a spokesperson said.

Jetstar said engineers were investigating the cause while passengers were being told to double-check their flight times.
