Lollie fans are fearing the worst after Allen’s confirmed a change to three of its classics — Sherbies, Milkos and Red Ripperz Sticks.
Sweet lovers were outraged when they could no longer find their favourite treats on supermarket shelves.
Allen’s revealed it was halting production of individual bags of the three lollies as they shifted factory locations.
The news upset some customers who expressed their concern that the sweets would go the way of the now-discontinued Fantales.
“What’s this rumour about Sherbies? Are Sherbies suffering the same fate as fantales,” asked Andrew Kite on the Allen’s Facebook page.
Wrote another social media user: “First you take away Cobbers, then Bananas then Fantales & now Red Ripperz, Milkos and Sherbies.
“WHY are you taking away all the good stuff???!!! How about getting rid of your horrible jelly beans and other crap that doesn’t sell? What on earth is wrong with you people? I’m just mind blown to say the least.”
Allen’s was quick to reassure its customers that the production pause was not permanent.
“We have temporarily paused our individual bags of ALLEN’S Red Ripperz Sticks, Sherbies, and Milkos as we move production to our new location in Broadford (north of Melbourne).
“We are working hard to bring these back to shelves in their own bags as soon as possible, but the good news is you can still find Red Ripperz, Sherbies, and Milko chews in bags of ALLEN’S Chew Mix!
“We’ll be sure to keep you updated on our ALLEN’S Facebook page Allen’s Lollies when individual bags make a return, in the meantime let’s show ALLEN’S Chew Mix some love!”
Lollie fans took the opportunity to lobby Allen’s to revive some of its discontinued lines including Fantales and Spearmint Leaves.
Judith Louise begged Allen’s to bring back Fantales when they resumed production of Sherbies at the new factory.
Nathan Davenport wanted to see a comeback of Allen’s Spearmint Leaves.
But Allen’s said the decision to end those lines was based on declining sales, retail space and new products being launched.
“The decision to stop making one of our products is never an easy one and it’s never made lightly as we know there will be some loyal fans,” wrote Allen’s.
