Alpaca ‘bodyguard’ heals wounded horse

After suffering years of neglect by the same owner, an Alpaca named George and a Clydesdale named Lexi have formed a most unlikely friendship.
In a story destined for a Disney movie, Lexi has come to rely on the protective Alpaca, Canadian animal protection inspector Brad Dewar told The Dodo.
“Spend just a few minutes with [Lexi] and you’ll see she gets really nervous,” Mr Dewar said.

“The alpaca will come to her side. If you approach her, he’ll kind of stand in front, to keep you away from her.”
While the Alpaca seems dedicated to his bodyguard duties, the OSPCA says he is also a keen buddy who comforts the horse, rarely leaves her side and is “constantly chatting with her.”
Recognising the important bond between horse and alpaca, Mr Dewar said they were looking to adopt out the pair together and inspecting homes after an overwhelming response on the OSPCA Facebook page.
The OSPCA believes that the horse’s interactions with humans were probably limited to someone dropping off food and water but are impressed with the strides she’s making in becoming accustomed to human interaction.
“[Lexi’s] quickly adapting to the care that she’s getting and George is slowly getting more accepting [of people approaching her].”
