Qld premier sues Alan Jones
Broadcaster Alan Jones says Queensland Premier Campbell Newman is suing him for defamation over comments he made about the stateâs Acland coal mine.
Jones, who is broadcasting an election special each weekday on Fairfax Radioâs 4BC, revealed on Friday morning he has received a statement of claim for defamation filed in the Queensland Supreme Court.

âNice to hear from you, Mr Newman,â Jones said.
âYou remain a bit of a political novice if you think thatâs the way to win an election or to silence people, you need to actually think again, but thanks for writing.â
Jones has attacked Mr Newman over the approval of an expansion of the Acland mine on the Darling Downs.
He claims he was given a commitment by the Queensland Liberal National Party (LNP) prior to its historic 2012 election victory that stage three of the project would not proceed.
But after Mr Newman took office, the government announced a compromise on the issue.
Jones has demanded Mr Newman detail what donations were made to the LNP by New Hope Corporation, the company at the centre of the controversy.
âAll these mining outfits are treated like royalty,â he said on Friday.
Comment is being sought from the premier.
